Over five hours after the chequered flag was waved at the Hungaroring, Lucas Auer, Edoardo Mortara and Bruno Spengler were disqualified and excluded from the classification by the stewards. During the DTM-race on Sunday, all three drivers had caused accidents in the pit lane. In the new race result, the subsequent drivers move up.
In their decisions, the stewards refer to the sporting regulations and identified the accidents as an infringement of article 30.9: “The driver must reduce speed as soon as he joins the deceleration zone so that he can stop his car at the pits without endangering other participants or the marshals.”
Moreover, Mortara and Spengler were given a ten positions’ grid penalty for the next race they participate in, suspended on probation for two race weekends. Both drivers were prepared for the extremely slippery conditions in the pit lane by their teams via the radio. Additionally, yellow flags were displayed in the pit lane following Auer’s initial accident.
